General Summary/Purpose
The mission of the International Vaccine Access Center (IVAC) at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health is to accelerate equitable and sustainable access to life-saving vaccines through the generation, synthesis, and use of evidence to inform decision-making and action. IVAC’s work focuses on disease epidemiology, vaccine economics and supply, monitoring and evaluation of vaccine introduction and center programs, and advocacy and communications activities to increase the profile of and global action on vaccine-preventable disease.
IVAC seeks to fill a part-time Coordinator for IVAC Communications position to support programmatic and communications activities for a cross-section of IVAC projects and priorities. Specific responsibilities will vary from month to month depending on center and project needs, up to a total of 10 hours per week.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Position overall objectives and specific responsibilities
- Manage IVAC website and IVAC project websites (ROTA Council, Stop Pneumonia, and others as needed) to ensure high-quality and up-to-date pages and functions for both public-facing content/design and backend security
- Coordinate IVAC Vaccine Access Digest email newsletter including writing, editing, and overseeing the review of content by IVAC leadership
- Coordinate social media channels, including reviewing partner feeds and amplifying important news via Twitter and email where appropriate
- Establish and manage Dropbox resources for contracting with communications vendors (i.e., sample scopes of work for website vendors, graphic designers, photographers, video production, and event management)
- Support evaluation of communication outreach activities, including website and social media analytics and distribution of material by key influential stakeholders
- Support knowledge management for communication resources (PowerPoint templates, logos, style guide, IVAC colors/fonts) and maintain official IVAC and project accounts
- Review IVAC’s log of upcoming publications and support IVAC Communications Lead in creating communication strategies
- Using Canva templates, support the creation of social media toolkits for key IVAC publications
- Maintain IVAC’s editorial calendar and coordinate with VoICE and other public-facing communication portals to amplify content
Minimum Qualifications
- 2 years of college coursework
- Some related experience required.
Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the* JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. *
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree, coursework, or workplace experience in communications, public health, or another field of relevance to IVAC’s mission and work
- Experience coordinating/managing projects
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong writing skills and demonstrated attention to detail
- Capable of moving forward several workstreams simultaneously and independently, on tight deadlines
- Fluency in Microsoft Office software, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and other critical programs
- Experience with content management systems (WordPress), email marketing software (Constant Contact, MailChimp), graphic design software (Canva), and social media (Twitter, Facebook)
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with a variety of individuals both inside and outside of the organization in a professional manner
- Ability to work both independently and with team to accomplish goals
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment (i.e., determining if/when materials need scientific review or strategic input), discretion, and a commitment to service excellence.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.
The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
