Program Officer - Media Freedom and Self-Regulation - Internews


VACANT POST - BASIC INFORMATION

GENERAL FUNCTION


Internews is seeking a Program Officer – Media Freedom and Self-Regulation for the USAID funded project Initiative for Media Freedom (IMF), which has the goal of enhancing democratic governance that provides economic, political and social inclusion and advances social stability by supporting a free media environment. The Program Officer – Media Freedom and Self-Regulation reports to the Media and Engagement Specialist (MES) to support activities to improve the environment for a free press and strengthen media self-regulation. The Program Officer works with the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer and local partners to collect data for MELP and identify potential learning opportunities.


 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • · Support Media Engagement Specialist in design, day-to-day implementation and monitoring of project activities related to improving the environment for a free press and media self-regulation

  • · Liaise with partner organization(s) to ensure timely, quality implementation of project activities

  • · Contribute to/ draft regular reports for program activities;

  • · Prepare proposals/reports/budgets, including text editing of proposals;

  • · Prepare correspondence and reports from conferences and discussion panels;

  • · Create and implement a strategy for improved communications on program activities and accomplishments;

  • · Carry out research as assigned and in support of ongoing projects and new initiatives;

  • · Represent Internews at conferences and events, with funders and with policy experts;

  • · Support local partners in the Program Unit with proposal development, fundraising, and organizational development in coordination with Internews International;

  • · Maintain in-depth knowledge of issues affecting the media community in the Philippines;

  • · Understanding of and demonstrated commitment to upholding Internews’ Core Values.

QUALIFICATIONS


  • · Minimum 5 years programmatic experience in relevant non-profit

  • · Relevant university degree required

  • · Extensive grant proposal writing experience, and proven text-editing proficiency

  • · Fluent in English and Tagalog

  • · Experience in developing or supporting programs

  • · Experience with legal/regulatory issues and/or policy advocacy a significant asset

  • · Experience with the Philippine media landscape

  • · Previous work experience with USAID programs and projects

  • · Demonstrated interpersonal skills including diplomacy, tact, and the ability to negotiate

  • · Excellent communication skills: speaking, writing, and listening

  • · Proven ability to set priorities and manage time effectively

  • · Proven analytical and problem-solving ability

  • · Proven ability to work both independently and as an effective team member

  • · Proven ability to prioritize and handle multiple on-going assignments

  • · Proficient in MS Office
